Death is a major life loss. So is divorce and retirement. After you experience these events, you are no longer the person you were before the event. You're an entirely new person, because you can no longer think of yourself as "someone's spouse," or "an engineer." You have to re-invent yourself.
And that's not easy. It can be confusing. And scary. But in the end, it can also be glorious.
